New Bird Area

The location where we had the bird feeders was getting increasingly messy and unsightly so I've been in the process of moving the bird area up to the top of the garden, were the mess can be contained.

Starting On New Bird Area

This is where a very old greenhouse once stood and the brick wall perimeter is ideal for keeping the area confined to where it should be.

Because this is now such a long way from the kitchen window, I've converted one of the sheds to a bird hide, where I can, hopefully, get quite close to the action. There is still much to do, I've got loads of wildflower seeds to scatter and cover with top soil. The top soil is coming from an area out of shot where the wildlife pond will be going. It should look good when it's finished, at the moment, it's a bit of a mess!

New Bird Area

I've had a try out in the hide this morning and it seems to work quite well, although I need to get a tree in between the two feeding stations to provide perches and natural photo opportunities.

Since moving the bird area, we're getting more Goldfinch and the Blue Tits have started visiting for the first time in ages.

Brilliant, your very own hide but still within reach of a bacon butty! Looks like you will have a great wildlife area at the botto of the garden. The birds certainly are messy. I need to power wash the slabs beneath my feeders.

Now I see where my hordes of Starlings go between breakfast and elevenses here.

I think those trees near your shed and feeders will make the smaller birds feel more secure when visiting. Somewhere close by to dive for cover.

Cracking portraits of your bird visitors.

Great idea Paul! It's taking shape well. You've set the stage so all you need do now is sit in the comfort of your hide (do you have a Springwatch sofa perhaps?) and wait for the cast to perform :-)

Nice photos of the birds visiting at the moment. Hope you get lots of photo opps over the weekend :-D

Thanks for all the kind comments, will be looking for a tree to plant up there this weekend and some branches to use as perches. Just hope rain holds off!

Hi LBJ,
Thanks for visiting my blog. Some days are better than others - sightings wise and photography wise.

Ive been through what your doing to your garden, I added two mini ponds and a bird feeding area and lots of nectar bearing plants, it's all worth it in the end!!

All the hard work seems to be paying off handsomely. The image of the Goldfinch is stunning. The details are so sharp and the colors gorgeous.
